If you have installed a lot of applications on your iPhone, the backup can take a while. The backup process is important but can be a pain, if you connect to your mac frequently. Itunes does not back the application data only, but the whole application binary every time. All is not lost. You can disable the backup process and speed your sync. To disable the slow back up open the “Terminal App” on your Mac and type:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
If you want to enable it again type:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false
Note: This also disables backing up your SMS-messages etc.
